Aston Martin put emergency plan into action against Brexit chaos

British automaker Aston Martin has formally approved its emergency plan to stop a disorderly UK exit from the EU. „We have to prepare for the worst case,“ said Aston Martin chief Andy Palmer the news agency Reuters. The company had no choice but to put into effect the plan presented in October in December.

If next week, as widely expected, the British Parliament vote against the Brexit agreement with the EU, the unregulated exit at the end of March is probably no longer averted. However, the automaker must already plan, for example, the supply of parts from Europe, which are needed in three months in production.
Port of Dover affected by hard Brexit

So far, engines or transmissions that Aston Martin procures in Europe, come over the port Dover into the country. There are fears of a tough Brexit but strong delays by customs controls. Aston Martin agreed with the carrier DHL that in this case the trucks would go to other ports. Also the more expensive way over airfreight was organized.

In order to sell its luxury cars without interruption in Europe, Aston Martin also built a warehouse in Germany last year. „Depending on what happens in the next few weeks, it can be increased or not,“ said Palmer.
