Of course this is an ugly thing for the people involved, no question. The real scandal is that these data were not properly secured. Actually, forgive me my opinion, you have to be the hacker / hackers still „thankful“, because this is the weak point of the system has ever been discovered.
We have a federal office for security in the information technology, we have BKA and LKA, and nevertheless such things happen. It feels like a banana republic rather than a leading industrialized country. One can only hope, in the interest of those affected, that not too much of the data reaches the public somewhere, because that is not part of my view. Much more needs to be done in terms of security, but we also need to learn not to „store“ certain things in the PC, but more in mind.
