Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Central Commission of the Communist Party (CP) of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, made his remarks in a speech to a New Year’s Assembly of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing.
In his speech, Xi pledged efforts to help Hong Kong and Macao in 2019 integrate their own development into the country’s overall development and maintain its prosperity and stability. He also pledged for the coming year to work for the peaceful development of relations on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, to deepen exchanges and cooperation in various areas between the two sides, and to promote the relationship between compatriots on both sides of the Strait next year , The country will continue to mainstream the supply-side structural reform, taking decisive steps to avert and defuse major risks, target poverty, prevent and control pollution, and coordinate efforts to stabilize growth, promote reform, to adapt the structure, to promote the livelihood of the population, to prevent risks and to ensure stability.
The year 2018 marks 40 years of China’s reform and opening, and to celebrate this, it would be best to continue pushing for deepening reform and expanding openness, Xi said. A total of 1,932 reform plans have been implemented since the third plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in November 2013. „We have shown our commitment to pushing through the concerns of reform and opening up in the new era.“
The year 2019, marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, is an important year for securing the decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in every respect, Xi continued. Stressing the importance of learning, innovation and solidarity, he called for efforts to exploit development opportunities and overcome challenges, as well as to encourage Party members and ethnic minority people in China to continue fighting for new achievements. Xi added that in the new year the CPCCC should take its responsibility to implement what is required by the CPC Central Committee and the wisdom and strength of the Chinese inside and outside the country to realize the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation to bundle.
