The exchange of information between the naval and air forces of China and Japan is a useful means of avoiding misunderstandings and misperceptions between the two countries, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Wednesday.
These statements were made at the State Department’s daily press conference in response to the question of the outcome of the first annual meeting of the Sino-Japanese naval and air force exchanges on 26 and 27 December. During China’s visit to Japan in May, Prime Minister Li Keqiang had signed an agreement to establish an exchange of information between the armed forces of both countries.
Hua said that the exchange of information is of great importance to the defense ministries of both countries, because it promotes mutual trust, helps prevent misunderstandings and misperceptions, and promotes the preservation of peace and stability in the region.
On the issue of fleet visits between the two countries in the coming year, Hua said that increased exchanges between the armed forces of both countries would facilitate the resolution of China-Japan disputes and promote mutual confidence in security issues. The two countries should build bilateral security relations to generate positive energy for continued improvement and long-term stable development of Sino-Japanese relations.
