The residents of a new skyscraper building in Sydney need to get out of their homes for the second time in a matter of days. It is a precautionary measure after some residents have noticed cracks in the walls and suspicious noises, ABC reported.

Already on Christmas Eve the inhabitants of the Opal Tower had to flee their apartments for the same reason.

Authorities had demanded the media report that a comprehensive investigation and thus triggered the renewed evacuation of the skyscraper. According to the client, the company Icon, the building is „structurally sound“. Nevertheless, residents could be accommodated in hotels for up to ten days, while experts examined the building.

The cracks had been reported from the tenth floor of the more than 30-story skyscraper. In addition, residents reported cracking noises and jamming doors. Icon assured the residents compensation. In the early hours of the first day of Christmas, many residents had been allowed to return to their homes. Out of fear, some still spent the night in their cars.

There is no risk of collapse, reported ABC, citing authorities. According to the police, cracks of up to 2 millimeters had been discovered. Criticism in Australia was that not only government agencies, but also private construction supervisors may approve buildings.

The Opal Tower was opened just four months ago. The building is one of five new residential tower blocks built on the grounds of the 2000 Olympic Games.
