Trump sees the rise in stock prices in the first year of his tenure as his earnings and is responding with increasing anger to the current decline in markets. Central to his criticism is the central bank, as the Federal Reserve has slowly but steadily raised interest rates, citing economic data.
The major US stock indices had previously lost ground. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by almost three percent, the S & P 500 by about 2.5 percent. The indices are in negative territory for the year as a whole. In addition to the descent of the markets, there is a partial standstill in the US. Trump does not want to end this „shutdown“ until he gets more money for his border wall with Mexico.
