A pontoon with a river restaurant has left Bratislava from the banks of the Danube and has been driven downriver. As the fire department announced, there was acute danger to shipping.
After only a few hundred meters, the unplanned floating restaurant collided with an oncoming goods ship from Romania, whereupon parts of the building structure broke off and spread out on the water. Also the freight ship was damaged. Wreckage of the restaurant also blocked the steering mechanisms of the ship and had to be removed by the fire department.
Only after several hours did the fire brigade and the police use boats to „capture“ the two largest fuselages of the collapsed restaurant pontoon and to anchor it on the southern outskirts of Bratislava.
Because of the Christmas holiday on Tuesday were no people in the normally located in front of a busy shopping center on the water excursion restaurant. Therefore no one was injured. How it came to the accident was initially unknown. Although it had rained heavily in the past few days, the pontoons on the banks of the Danube should also be protected against flooding.
