Hollywood actor Steven Seagal is not being prosecuted for alleged sexual assault on a 17-year-old. The case from the year 2002 is barred, communicated the prosecutor in Los Angeles yesterday.
In-depth investigations have not provided sufficient evidence „to meet the requirements of the statute regarding the statute of limitations,“ it said. Therefore, the case is rejected.
The Dutch model Faviola Dadis accuses the action star (Red Alert) of groping her in a hotel in Beverly Hills. Seagal had slipped his hand under her clothes at an ostensible job interview, caressed her breast and grabbed her in the crotch.
Lawyer: unfair law
Dadis did not report the alleged assault until years later. Her attorney Lisa Bloom thanked the prosecutor in a „careful review“ of the case and criticized „this unfair law that barred the court doors even for young women like my client.“
The statute of limitations for sexual offenses in California is between three and six years. Bloom said the law did not recognize that many years later, many minors were emotionally ready to enforce their rights against their assailants.
Several women have in the past made allegations of sexual assault against the 66-year-old Seagal. In September, the prosecutor in Los Angeles had in a case from 1993, a prosecution against the action actor rejected – also for prescription. Seagal denies any wrongdoing.
