The extremist organization „Islamic State“ (IS) has executed nearly 700 prisoners in two months, according to a Syrian human rights group. The killers were among the 1,350 civilians and fighters who hold the IS near the border with Iraq, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced on Wednesday.
The once almost completely Syria dominating IS dominated only one area east of the river Euphrates to the city Hajin. US-backed Kurdish militias have launched an offensive against the last major IS bastion this month. According to the Kurdish rebels, there are at least 5,000 IS fighters in the IS enclave. Among them are many foreigners who apparently do not want to surrender under any circumstances.
