EU Commission presents contingency plans for disorderly Brexit

The EU Commission wants to present its emergency measures in the event of Brexit without a contract. Although the EU side still hopes that the exit agreement negotiated with the United Kingdom is still ratified by the British parliament. But there is no majority in sight.

The Brussels authorities therefore want to propose some rules that could cushion the consequences of a chaotic breach at the end of March. These include the rights of the British, who have long been living in one of the 27 remaining EU countries. In addition, some flight connections could be secured and possible risks for the financial markets mitigated with special rules. The precondition would be that Great Britain grants the same special rights.

Britain wants to leave the EU on 29 March 2019. The leaving contract provides for a transitional period until at least the end of 2020, during which practically nothing should change for the economy and the citizens of both sides. If the agreement is not ratified, it would be dropped.
