In an emergency investigation, two police officers in Chicago were overrun and killed by a suburban train.
According to media reports, officials searched for a potential shooter on Monday night (local time) after worried residents were startled by several shots in the area south of the metropolis and called the police.
„These brave young men were busy trying to detect a potential threat,“ said Chicago police chief Eddie Johnson, according to the Chicago Tribune. The 36 and 31-year-old policemen had pursued a suspect who had run over the tracks after the alleged gunfire.
The police cordoned off the area in the disaster as a crime scene, the entire train traffic in the area was temporarily suspended. According to the Chicago Tribune, the passengers of the accident were stuck for several hours before they could change to buses.
