Due to „adverse atmospheric conditions“, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is expected to be affected by heavily polluted weather over the next 10 days, according to a Saturday official forecast.
Especially in Beijing, the air quality will deteriorate drastically. From 19 to 22 December, moderate or severe air pollution will occur. The arrival of the north winds will contribute to the improvement of air quality in the city from 23rd December.
Air pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region will gradually decline around December 24 thanks to a cold air effect, the Department of Environmental Protection said in a report on air quality for the remainder of December.
For the Yangtze River Delta region, on the other hand, air quality is expected to remain either good or slightly polluted, while in areas around Fenhe and Weihe rivers in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, the likelihood of sustained heavy air pollution is low.
In the next 10 days, air quality in Northeast China will be average. However, the central and western parts of Liaoning may suffer from moderate or severe air pollution on Saturday, with PM 2.5 the main pollutant. The level of pollution will gradually decline from Sunday to Monday thanks to good atmospheric diffusion.
Also in South, Southwest and Northwest China air pollution is likely to occur to varying degrees.
