DFB President Reinhard Grindel has called for the unsuccessful World Cup year 2018 „a sovereign qualification“ of the German national football team for the 2020.
In the last two internationals against Russia and the Netherlands they have seen „that they are presenting a team with a new face, who wants to play attractive football, which is why we can confidently go into qualifying for the European Championship 2020,“ said Grindel in an interview the „New Osnabrücker Zeitung“. Despite the preliminary round failure at the World Cup in Russia, he looks positively into the future.
In addition to the start of construction of the new DFB headquarters with the academy on the site of the former racecourse in Frankfurt in 2019, he hopes „a sovereign qualification for our national team“, continued the president of the German Football Association.
The DFB-Elf will face the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Estonia and Belarus in 12 host countries in qualifying for the European Championship finals from 12 June to 12 July 2020.
