The financial cushion of the statutory health insurance in Germany has grown according to a media report. As the „Bild“ reported, citing figures from the Federal Ministry of Health, the funds can now fall back on a reserve of 21 billion euros. At the end of June, reserves had exceeded € 20 billion for the first time. By the end of March, it was 19.9 billion euros.
The surplus of the general local health insurance funds is particularly high, according to information: Since January it has been around 920 million euros. With the substitute cashes it is 534 million, with the company health insurance 190 million euro.
Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn told the newspaper: „The health insurance funds continue to hoard the money of the contributors, they now have four times the reserve on the high ridge, that’s just too much.“
In November, the Federal Council had passed a bill passed by the Bundestag, which stipulates, among other things, that statutory funds with a particularly large financial cushion must reduce reserves from 2020 within three years. The condition is, however, that until then a reform of the complicated financial equalization is made under the coffers.
