In the case of the crashed aircraft of the Indonesian low-cost airline Lion Air, the investigators make manufacturers and airline serious allegations. The machine was not „airworthy“. The pilots fought desperately against the crash.
The crash of an Indonesian passenger plane with 189 fatalities last month could probably have been prevented. The Indonesian air traffic control authority KNKT concludes on Wednesday in a preliminary investigation report to the conclusion that the Boeing 737 of the low-cost airline was already on a flight the day before the accident „not airworthy“. The plane crashed into the sea on October 29, just eleven minutes into the Indonesian capital Jakarta. Of the 189 inmates, no one survived.
The „New York Times“ reported on the paper in advance that the pilots of the almost brand new Boeing 737 Max had fought from the very beginning against a crash. More than two dozen times they are said to have tried to pull the plane of the low-budget aircraft Lion Air from a descent to the top – but ultimately without success. The Boeing then crashed on the water at high speed. At first there was no comment from the investigators.
It has long been speculated that a newly introduced software could have caused the crash, which can automatically adjust the elevator of the machine. The pilots can put this off again by means of two switches in the cockpit, but this obviously did not happen.
Already on a flight from Bali to Jakarta the day before the crash, the on-board computer had made conflicting information about flight altitude and speed. Lion Air had stated that problems had been resolved before launch the next morning. The low-cost airline had decided not to let the machine on the ground for safety’s sake.
The data recorder of the Boeing has been found. After the voice recorder, which records the conversations and noises in the cockpit, is still being searched.
