Western aimags, including Bayan-Ulgii, Gobi-Altai, Khovd, Uvs and Zavkhan were hit by severe dust and snow storms with speed of 18-24 m/sec, reaching 40 m/sec in some areas on November 24-25. During the storms 9 persons were lost, 3 injured, power was knocked out to 52 soums, 1600 head of livestock lost, 211 households’ gers were broken and roofs of 27 buildings were ripped off.
Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister U.Enkhtuvshin, the National State Emergency Commission met on November 26, discussing the issue of relief operations in the aimags. The Commission was reported that the lost persons were all found, restoration works of collapsed electricity pylons were underway.
At the meeting, the Minister of Energy was tasked with rebuilding the transmission towers that collapsed due to the storm as early as possible and introducing the financial issue of MNT 391 million required for this operation at the next Cabinet’s regular meeting. The Governors of the disaster-hit aimags were also assigned to have their aimags’ hospitals and emergency departments prepared and to deliver prompt public services to the people who lost their homes during the storms.
Moreover, the Deputy PM tasked the National Emergency Management Agency to immediately distribute relief goods and materials from the state reserve to those lost their homes, and authorities of the National Agency for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring to be attentive towards keeping citizens informed about the weather conditions.
