Labor Day curious: Because May 1st fell on Holy Saturday of Orthodox Easter this year, the major Greek trade unions have simply postponed their demonstrations and strikes until this week. However, not for a single day, but in installments.

For example, journalists and, in between, the local public transport workforce are on strike today. On Thursday, the employees of ferries, flight control and again local public transport will go on strike.

The civil servants also go out of work on Thursday. In addition, the communist union PAME has called for a 24-hour strike on Thursday and for a demonstration and rally in front of the Greek parliament on Syntagma Square in central Athens.
