Turkish security forces have arrested 22 women in the southeast Turkish metropolis of Diyarbakir, according to the women’s rights association Rosa. Police officers also searched the club’s premises, chairwoman Adalet Kaya told the dpa today.

What the arrested are accused of was initially unclear. The Turkish authorities had already targeted the club in the past because of terrorist allegations, Kaya said.

According to its own statements, the Rosa association stands up for women who have been victims of violence. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan canceled the Istanbul Convention, which aims to prevent and combat violence against women, around two weeks ago.
