The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against a „false feeling of security“ in view of the falling number of coronavirus infections in many European countries. The increasing spread of more contagious variants of the virus should not be forgotten, said WHO European Director Hans Kluge today in Copenhagen.
At the moment, „the overwhelming majority of European states remain vulnerable“. It is only a small step “between the hope of vaccination and a false sense of security”.
According to the WHO, 7.8 million people in 29 countries in the WHO Europe region, which also includes some Central Asian countries, have received the two coronavirus vaccine doses required for immunity. That corresponds to only 1.5 percent of the population of the affected states. „Vaccinations are crucial, but so far they have not been enough to bring the pandemic under control,“ said Kluge.
