In Chile, more than 550,000 people were vaccinated against the coronavirus within three days. On Friday alone, a good 112,000 vaccine doses were given to seniors over the age of 85, the Ministry of Health announced yesterday.
The vaccination centers in the South American country opened on Wednesday. The government set a goal of vaccinating five million people by the end of March. By July, 15 million of the total of 18 million residents should have received a vaccination.
The first doses of the vaccine had already been given to health workers in Chile in December. In addition to the vaccine from the German manufacturer Biontech and its US partner Pfizer, the country also uses the vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac. Chile also signed supply agreements with the pharmaceutical groups Johnson & Johnson and Astrazeneca.
