According to a media report, the elected US President Joe Biden has chosen a candidate for the post of health minister, which is particularly important in the pandemic. He wants to nominate the current California attorney general and attorney general Xavier Becerra, reported the „New York Times“ yesterday (local time).
Becerra was the first Latino to be sworn in as California Attorney General in 2017. Previously, he was a member of the US House of Representatives for 24 years. The 62-year-old was also traded as a potential candidate for the US Department of Justice.
Becerra, California attorney general, led the efforts of several states and the capital Washington against attempts by the Republicans to overturn President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform in court.
Barr reportedly plans to resign
Meanwhile, reports came to light that incumbent US Attorney General William Barr is considering resigning before Donald Trump’s term ends. Barr could announce his withdrawal before the end of the year, reported the New York Times, citing three unnamed people. The news broadcaster CNN confirmed with its own source that Barr’s resignation considerations existed.
Barr is considered a close ally of Trump. Last week, however, he had publicly shown disappointment in his minister. The reason for this was his statements in an interview in which he had commented on the election result, which Trump had questioned. Barr said it had so far seen no evidence of fraud to the extent that it could have led to a different election result.
