The EU will have around two billion vaccine doses against the corona virus, said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a video conference with Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) today. That means that 700 million people can be vaccinated with the EU population, said von der Leyen, also in the Western Balkans and Africa. Austria gets two percent of the EU vaccination doses, „more than Austria will probably need,“ she said.

The head of the EU Commission briefly thanked her for her commitment in the CoV crisis. It is „impressive“ how fast and well the process is going, the vaccination is „a real game changer“. Von der Leyen said the first vaccinations might start in December.

Kurz said that he hoped that the first groups in Austria could be vaccinated in January. As such, he named the health and care workers, the elderly and otherwise particularly affected people.
