The regions in Italy are putting pressure on the government and calling for a review of the coronavirus traffic light system, which divides Italy into red, orange and yellow risk zones. The 20 parameters for determining the risk group are „arbitrary“ and should be reconsidered, said the President of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Massimiliano Fedriga, whose region has been orange since Sunday.
The Conference of Regions is meeting the Scientific Committee (CTS) today to discuss the categories of risk zones. The aim is to change the traffic light system. The number of red areas is now growing.
A partial lockdown based on the South Tyrolean example is also to be introduced in the Apennine region Abruzzo. As of today, all schools in the Basilicata region are closed until December 3rd.
„Don’t want a complete lockdown“
“The next ten days will be crucial for the development of the coronavirus pandemic in Italy. Until then, it will show whether the government’s strategy is effective, ”said Health Minister Roberto Speranza.
There are already concrete signs that the situation could stabilize. “We want to steer the curve without there being a complete lockdown,” underlined the Minister of Health. In any case, the government wants to stick to the system of targeted lockdowns on a regional basis.
“We don’t want a complete lockdown based on the Austrian model, we’re continuing with the system of red, orange and yellow regions. Our goal is also to keep schools open, ”said Vice Minister of Health Sandra Zampa. In Italy today the number of new infections has fallen. The number of new infections fell from 33,979 to 27,354 in 24 hours. There were 504 deaths, 42 fewer than the previous day.
