A locally transmitted coronavirus case has been confirmed in New Zealand for the first time since August. The health authorities announced today that it is currently being checked where the young woman in the Auckland metropolis could have been infected. In the city’s business center, people were asked to work from home if possible.
New Zealand is still in a „very strong“ position to have the virus under control, said the new minister for combating the coronavirus pandemic, Chris Hipkins. „In the rest of the world, Covid-19 continues to rage and will pose an increased threat for some time to come.“
The Pacific state declared the virus defeated for the second time in October. The people there have returned to largely normalcy and do not even need to wear masks. In total, the country has reported around 1,600 infections so far, 25 people have died in connection with the virus.
