The Italian government is planning a regulation with CoV regulations for the Christmas season. This was announced by Vice Minister of Health Sandra Zampa in an interview with the daily newspaper „La Stampa“ (Tuesday edition).
“Families will only be able to meet in the closest circle, first-degree relatives, siblings. Most of the current anti-CoV measures should remain in force over the Christmas holidays, ”said the social democratic politician.
There could be some easing in retail. “This epidemic must be tackled with the greatest possible sense. If there is no turnaround, no health system in the world can withstand the pressure of the epidemic, ”said Zampa.
Effective reproduction number at 1.7
The increase in new infections with the coronavirus in Italy should meanwhile slow down. The effective reproductive number in the country is 1.7 and is not growing as fast as in the past few weeks, but the health system is under great pressure, said the President of the Supreme Health Institute, Silvio Brusaferro, at a press conference.
It is important to reduce the effective reproductive number in all 20 Italian regions to 1.0 in order to relieve the health system. That is only possible with responsible behavior by the population.
Brusaferro complained that the number of infected people who have to be admitted to the hospital is increasing rapidly. In some regions there are delays in the treatment of patients with other diseases because Covid-19 patients are given priority.
The number of patients in intensive care units is increasing sharply and will soon reach a „critical threshold“, warned Brusaferro. “If we don’t act sensibly, the health system will collapse,” warned the expert.
