Although the number of new infections in the Czech Republic remains the highest in the EU, the pressure on the government to reopen schools is growing in the northern neighboring country. In particular, face-to-face teaching for children in elementary schools and the subsequent school year should be resumed as soon as possible, says the Association of Local Local Self-Governments (SMS CR).
All educational institutions with the exception of kindergartens in the Czech Republic have been closed since mid-October. Originally, at least the elementary schools had been left open. In view of the rapidly increasing number of infections, the government decided differently.
But now there is criticism of homeschooling. The SMS CR believes that distance learning is at very different levels and that the differences in knowledge between students have increased.
The pressure from the critics of the school closure is growing, also because it seems in the last few days that the restrictions are having an effect. Although the number of infections is still high, the trend is no longer increasing.
7-day incidence drops
On the contrary, a slight decrease can be observed, as if the peak had already been overcome, according to information from the Prague Ministry of Health. For example, 7,722 new infections were reported on Saturday in the Czech Republic with a population of 10.7 million, around 3,700 fewer than on Saturday a week earlier. Yesterday, too, there was a downward trend on a weekly basis
