Following reports of mutated coronaviruses transmitted from mink to humans in Denmark, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that infected minks have been reported from six countries. Cases of Sars-CoV-2 in mink have been detected in Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the USA, the WHO said overnight.

So far, only the mutation of the virus in Denmark called „Cluster 5“ is worrying, it said.

Denmark has so far reported not only a few affected animals but also twelve infected people with the “Cluster 5” mutation. The government has therefore ordered the emergency slaughter of all 15 to 17 million mink in the country.
