Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison wants coronavirus vaccination for his country’s 25 million people. The vaccination should be „as compulsory as possible,“ said the head of government today on the radio station 3AW. Exceptions should only be made for medical reasons.
Morrison said the risk was too high to keep the disease unchecked. „We’re talking about a pandemic that has devastated the global economy and killed hundreds of thousands,“ said Morrison. However, the government has not yet made a decision on the issue. The vaccination should be free.
Anti-vaccination campaigners spread false information
In Australia, some vaccinations for children are already a requirement in order to be able to go to school or kindergarten. However, the regulation is not undisputed. Critics see it as an interference with personal freedom. Opponents of vaccinations spread a lot of false information about possible risks online.
The Australian authorities have so far recorded more than 400 coronavirus-related deaths.
