At least eight people were killed and 19 others injured, including women and children, in an attack in Syria near the Turkish border. In Ras al-Ain, a car bomb exploded on a vegetable market, the state-run news agency Sana reported today. The city near the border is under the control of Turkey’s allies.

At first, nobody acknowledged the fact. Turkey blamed the Kurdish militia YPG for the attack. The Ankara Ministry of Defense said on Twitter that five civilians had been killed and twelve others injured. Turkey sees the YPG as an offshoot of the banned Kurdistan Workers‘ Party (PKK) and thus as a terrorist organization.
