Despite rising coronavirus infections in parts of the United States, Democrats are holding on to their party convention planned for August in Wisconsin to nominate their designated presidential candidate Joe Biden. The former vice president plans to attend.
Party representatives from the states should not travel to Milwaukee, but participate as virtually as possible, said the Democratic National Committee (DNC) yesterday. It was working on a procedure that should allow all delegates to vote virtually, it said. The four-day event will be relocated from the Arena Fiserv Forum to the smaller Wisconsin Center convention center.
Biden has been a designated Democratic candidate since April after his competitors left. At the beginning of June, he said he had secured the necessary delegate votes for his party’s presidential candidacy in primaries.
It therefore seems certain that he will stand in the election on November 3 for the Democrats against the Republican Donald Trump, who is seeking a second term. Biden was Vice President under President Barack Obama.
