Thunberg: Crisis management opens up „new dimensions“

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has shown understanding of the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on international climate protests. „A crisis is a crisis – and in a crisis everyone has to take a few steps back and act in the best way for society and our fellow human beings,“ said the 17-year-old today on Midsummer Saturday in the Swedish radio summer program.

In the corona virus crisis, humanity suddenly acts as it should, said Thunberg: international crisis summits would be convened, immense crisis packages passed. People changed their behavior and habits fundamentally, the media only reported about the corona virus, and politics worked together for the benefit of all. „This crisis management opens up a completely new dimension,“ said Thunberg.

Because of the pandemic and the associated restrictions on the assembly, no major climate protests have been taking place on the streets for months, as they shaped the year 2019 based on the example of Thunberg. Thunberg and her fellow campaigners around the world are therefore trying to use online protests and small-scale campaigns to draw attention to the ongoing fight against the climate crisis and to call for more climate protection.
