Facebook makes it difficult to find groups under the term “Boogaloo”, which refers to an allegedly impending US civil war or the collapse of civilization. Facebook will no longer recommend such groups to members of similar associations, a spokeswoman for the group said yesterday.
At least two of the three suspects who were said to have planned violent acts against an anti-racist rally in Las Vegas had participated in „Boogaloo“ groups on Facebook, according to the federal police FBI. Charges had been brought against the men the day before.
Already on May 1st, Facebook banned the use of „Boogaloo“ and similar terms when accompanying pictures of weapons and calls for actions. Some had therefore resorted to terms like „Big Igloo“ and „Big Luau“ in order to continue their debates about weapons, upcoming wars and conspiracy theories. According to experts, many supporters of the „Boogaloo“ movement feel connected to right-wing extremist white groups and militias.
