A new case of police violence against an unarmed African American is causing outrage in the United States. In the US state of Kentucky, police shot a 26-year-old paramedic in her apartment, her family’s attorney, Ben Crump, said. The case accordingly occurred in Louisville on March 13, but only now caused a stir because the lawyer went public.

The family has filed suit against the officials. According to the lawyer, Breonna Taylor and her boyfriend were sleeping in their apartment when the police entered the apartment in search of a suspect and shot eight times. The officers had searched for a man who no longer lived in the building and was already in detention.

Taylor’s friend, who has a gun license, shot the officers and was arrested for attempted murder. He is still in custody today. According to Crump, no action has yet been taken against the police. The police have not commented on the circumstances of „this tragedy“ nor have they assumed responsibility for the „senseless killing“ of Taylor, Crump criticized.

Mayor promises clarification

Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said Tuesday, „My priority is to get the truth out and justice.“ The case is currently under investigation. However, he pointed out that „incredibly difficult situations“ could arise during police work.

Attorney Crump also represents the family of African-American Ahmaud Arbery, who was allegedly shot by two white men while jogging in a residential area in the state of Georgia in late February.
