The Chinese capital Beijing has again tightened its measures against the introduction of the corona virus. According to the authorities, people who come to the city now have to go under “domestic observation” for a week after a two-week quarantine. This means that returnees may not take part in public life for a total of three weeks.

China says it has much control over the virus, but is concerned about the influx of travelers infected with the corona virus. They are almost exclusively Chinese who are returning home. People from abroad are currently not allowed to enter the People’s Republic because existing visas and residence permits have been suspended.

Beijing High Risk Area

According to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Beijing’s Chaoyang district was classified as the only „high-risk area“ in a surveillance app yesterday. The classification came after a new infection cluster was discovered. A returnee had infected three family members, according to the information.

The National Health Commission reported 30 new infections today, including 23 “imported” cases of SARS-CoV-2 in travelers and seven new local infections. According to this information, more than 82,000 people have been infected in China, of which around 77,000 have now recovered.
