The new type of corona virus continues to spread: more than 2.25 million people worldwide have now been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen, and the United States remains the most severely affected country in the world. The number of coronavirus deaths rose to more than 154,000 worldwide. In Europe alone, almost 98,000 people have died from the disease caused by the pathogen Covid-19.

In Spain, which was severely affected, the mark of 20,000 deaths was exceeded today. Britain reported an increase in deaths from almost 900 to more than 15,400. In the US, the number of cases of infection has meanwhile increased to more than 700,000, and around 37,000 people have died – more than in any other country in the world.

To date, more than 139,900 infections with the new corona virus have been registered in Germany. At least 4,249 people infected with the SARS-CoV-2 pathogen have reportedly died nationwide so far. The number of coronavirus deaths in Switzerland has meanwhile increased to 1,111.

Initial restrictions: half of the world’s population affected

According to an AFP census, more than half of the population worldwide is now subject to strict exit restrictions. The pandemic has now spread to all regions of the world.

With increasing concern, the World Health Organization (WHO) is looking at the ever faster spread of the virus in Africa. Last week, the number of people infected on the continent increased by 51 percent to almost 20,000, said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The death toll on the continent rose to over a thousand.

Evidence of cases in North Korea

Contrary to the official account from Pyongyang, there is also a coronavirus infection in North Korea, according to a radio report. Radio Free Asia reported that the authorities in the foreclosed country had spoken of confirmed Covid 19 cases in messages to individual organizations and civic groups. The diseases have been known since the end of March, the station reported, citing two insiders. However, the number of patients is not known.
