In Saudi Arabia, Princess Basmah bint Saud, who has been detained for a year, has asked the king and crown prince for her release in an open letter. In the al-Hair maximum security prison south of Riyadh, she was „arbitrarily“ held without charge, the 56-year-old businesswoman wrote in the letter published on Twitter yesterday.
Her health is deteriorating and this could lead to her death. She receives no medical care and has not even received an answer to her requests. Princess Basmah asked her uncle, King Salman, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to release her because she „did nothing wrong“.
Nothing was known about the reasons for the detention of the princess. According to confidants, she was arrested in March last year, shortly before she wanted to travel to Switzerland for medical treatment. The 56-year-old wrote that she was „kidnapped“ with one of her daughters and then „thrown into prison“.
