In Spain, which has been hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, the curfew for the population is being extended again. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced today the two-week extension to April 25th. The cabinet will request Parliament’s approval on Tuesday. Emergency measures and curfew have been in effect since March 14.
The number of deaths is falling
After Europe, Spain is the country most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in Europe. After all, there was a small glimmer of hope today: the number of new deaths in the country fell slightly for the second day in a row.
As the authorities announced today, 809 people died the day before from the coronavirus-induced lung disease Covid-19. Two days earlier there were 950 dead – a sad record in a single day in Spain. Overall, more than 11,700 people have died in the country as a result of an infection.
The number of new infections also decreased slightly, according to the information, at around 7,000. In total, almost 125,000 infections have been reported in Spain so far. More than 34,000 people are now considered to have recovered.
„The three-week isolation that lies behind us is bearing fruit,“ said Sanchez. There is progress and the new infections curve is expected to flatten out soon. „All Spaniards are helping to make this happen,“ said Sanchez, who described the pandemic as „the great crisis of our lives.“
