The next UN climate conference is now being postponed because of the corona virus. The COP26 planned for November in Glasgow will only take place in 2021, the Finnish Environment and Climate Minister Krista Mikkonen said on Twitter last night.

But that is not a reason to stop climate protection. Rather, the European Union should show „leadership“ and revise its emissions targets as soon as possible.

EU wants to present climate plan

Despite the postponement, the EU Commission wants to stick to its schedule and present a new European climate target for 2030 by September. This was announced by Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans in Brussels.

Currently, the EU wants to bring greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. The commission wants to raise the brand to 50 to 55 percent, but first carefully examine the effects.
