A state of emergency has been declared in the US state of California because of the spread of the corona virus. Governor Gavin Newsom announced yesterday in Sacramento that 53 infections have been confirmed in the most populous state in the United States. A few hours earlier, the first coronavirus death in California had been announced.

It was the first death outside of Washington state in which the US coronavirus was first detected. Ten people have already died there as a result of the coronavirus infection.

$ 8.3 billion to fight CoV

The U.S. Congress, however, decided to release $ 8.3 billion in funds to help fight the corona virus. Democrats and Republicans reached an agreement, as Parliament President Nancy Pelosi said. The House of Representatives then voted 415 for the Emergency Aid Act.

The law provides $ 3 billion for the development of therapies and vaccines. $ 2.2 billion is earmarked for preventive measures. $ 435 million is earmarked for aid abroad.

More than 50,000 people recovered

In China, the number of new infections with the corona virus has meanwhile increased slightly. The authorities reported 139 new infections yesterday, compared to 119 the day before. The number of deaths rose by 31 to 3,012. 38 deaths had been reported on Tuesday. The central province of Hubei accounts for all deaths – including 23 in Wuhan City – and 134 of the new infections. According to official information, 52,045 of a total of 80,409 people were cured.

Slovenia reported its first coronavirus case. It was a patient who came to Slovenia from Morocco via Italy via Slovenia, said Slovenian Minister of Health Ales Sabeder. After the patient with symptoms of illness visited his family doctor, he was sent to the infection clinic in Ljubljana, where he is now in quarantine.

Two cases in Hungary

Hungary had previously announced the first two coronavirus cases. There were two Iranian students, „whom we had to take to the hospital immediately,“ Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Facebook.

The number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in South Korea continued to rise. 438 cases have been added since yesterday, the health authorities said. The total number has risen to 5,766 so far. The number of deaths associated with the novel corona virus has increased by three to 35 since the previous day.
