Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel wants to reform Grand Duke Henri’s court comprehensively. „We want to strengthen the monarchy by improving the court, making it transparent and adapting it to the 21st century,“ said Bettel today.
At the same time, he announced that Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, who had been the focus of public criticism in recent months, would no longer play a role in the functioning of the court. She was accused of being responsible for the high staff turnover at the court.
Bettel had previously informed the Constitutional Committee of the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies about the report by senior finance officer Jeannot Waringo, who had investigated the organization of the court on Bettel’s behalf. The head of government announced that in future the private and official finances of the grand ducal family should be separated and the public share controlled by the tax authorities. Grand Duke Henri agreed with the planned reforms „90 percent“.
