Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has denied media reports that he is said to have personally spoken to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II about the security costs for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan. „I didn’t speak to Her Majesty directly,“ Trudeau said yesterday at a press conference.
Talks about assuming millions of dollars of costs continued, he added. British media had reported that Trudeau Elizabeth II had agreed that Canada could cover the security costs for Harry, Meghan and their son Archie.
Canadian media estimates that these costs will be approximately $ 1.7 million annually.
No longer „Royal Highness“
The grandson of the British monarch and his wife had surprisingly announced a week and a half ago – and apparently without informing the Queen beforehand – that they would largely withdraw from their royal obligations and want to stand financially on their own two feet. The couple also announced that they plan to live partially in Canada in the future.
Thereupon feverish deliberations began in the royal house, at the end of which Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday that Harry and Meghan were no longer entitled „Royal Highness“ and that no more public funds would be received.
