According to a “Spiegel” report, the German federal prosecutor’s office is investigating a former German EU diplomat and two other suspects for espionage for China. The magazine reported today that raids on nine properties in Berlin, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and the Belgian capital Brussels had been going on since early.

According to the report, the former diplomat is said to have worked for a large German lobby company since the end of his career at the EU in 2017 and, from this year, has provided „private and business information“ to the Chinese Ministry of State Security. According to the report, the other two suspects are also working for the company and are said to have been recruited by the former diplomat.

According to „Spiegel“, one of the men is also accused of espionage. The other is said to have only agreed to this. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office was unable to respond to the report.

According to the report, the company is said to be a leading lobby company that previously advised well-known large companies. The „Spiegel“ did not give details of the accused and the companies concerned.
