The German investigative authorities suspect several men of Chechen descent of having spied out locations for a possible Islamist attack. The „Spiegel“ reported online that it was specifically about a synagogue in Berlin. There was no concrete risk of an attack today, said the Attorney General and the police in Berlin.

There were raids in several German federal states in the morning because of the suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that could endanger the state. Around 180 emergency services searched objects at nine locations in Berlin, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia.

Suspects 23 to 28 years old

The suspects are reported to be men aged 23 to 28. In one of them, suspicious pictures were found on the cell phone during a police check. The search was supposed to clarify the situation of the motif.

Cash, cutting and stabbing weapons and data carriers were confiscated. These would now be evaluated. There were no reports of arrests.
