The newly acquired luxury jets of the Hungarian army have headed for exotic destinations, as the Hungarian unveiling platform Atlatszo reports. The two Airbus A319 and two Dassault Falcon 7X were flown to Las Vegas, Panama, Dubai, Malta and the Canaries, among others.

The Ministry of Defense had previously declared the purchase of these machines only for military purposes and not as “government machines”. According to the Atlatszo report, at the request of the Hvg.hu portal, the ministry ultimately released a list of passengers‘ names.

Orban on board too

According to the list, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, Interior Minister Sandor Pinter and President Janos Ader were on board. The ministry is silent about the specific destinations of these flights and the detailed costs incurred, as Hvg.hu reported.

According to the portal, top politicians flew to 80 different destinations between July 2018 and October 2019. The most expensive flight is said to have cost nearly 30 million forints (91,000 euros).

The opposition Democratic Coalition (DK), for its part, asked Defense Minister Tibor Benkö for information on the purpose for which the army’s machines, with politicians on board, had flown to “exotic destinations, casino cities and tax havens”.
