A week after his sensational testimony before the US Congress on the impeachment investigation against US President Donald Trump, a key witness is in trouble.
Three women accuse the US ambassador to the EU, Gordon Sondland, of sexual assault, as „ProPublica“ and „Portland Monthly“ reported yesterday in a jointly published article. In a statement, the 62-year-old dismissed the allegations. They have been voted „for political purposes“.
The allegations cover the years 2003 to 2010 and thus the time before the time of Ambassador. After the women rejected him, the then entrepreneur allegedly took retaliatory action against them according to the report.
Sondland weighed heavily on Trump
Sondland had donated one million US dollars (about 910,000 euros) to the Trump team for the inauguration ceremony in January 2017. He was appointed ambassador in 2018.
With his testimony, Sondland had severely burdened Trump and other key figures in his environment. Trump had specifically told him and other government officials to work with his lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Ukraine.
Giuliani, in return for a meeting in the White House, called for a public announcement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenski on investigations against the son of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden
