A commemorative coin planned by the British government for Britain’s exit from the EU on 31 October will probably not exist. As the Ministry of Finance announced yesterday in London, the coinage of the 50-pence coins was stopped.

On them are engraved the originally planned Brexit date of 31 October and the words „peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations“.

How many of these coins have already been minted and what should happen to them remained open. Cabinet member Kwasi Kwarteng denied that it was „stupid“ to start imprinting before the Brexit date was certain. „I think the British government has very seriously aimed to go on 31st October. It’s sad if we do not go on that date, „he told BBC.

With no resolute exit agreement with the EU, Prime Minister Boris Johnson was forced to request a postponement of the Brexit deadline to the EU. Another extension is likely, but the length of the deadline is still unclear.
