In the nuclear dispute, Iran gives the three EU signatory states two more months to honor their pledges and rescue the 2015 agreement. President Hassan Rouhani said today, according to state television, that it is unlikely to reach agreement on the agreement in the coming days.

„Two more months“ for EU“

Europe will have two more months to live up to its commitments.“ The three EU member states Great Britain, France and Germany are holding next to Russia and China the agreement that United States President Donald Trump unilaterally canceled over a year ago.

With new economic sanctions Trump wants to force Iran to an agreement on its nuclear and missile program, which goes far beyond the previous agreement. The three EU states have promised Iran to protect its oil and banking industry from new US sanctions.

Agreement is to extend time for construction of nuclear bomb

In order to achieve a redemption of this promise, Iran is gradually putting an end to its obligations under the nuclear agreement. The goal of the agreement is to extend the time it took Iran to build a nuclear bomb from two to three months to one year.

Rouhani announced that his country would continue to reduce the fulfillment of the requirements of the nuclear deal „today or tomorrow“. „I do not think (…) that we will reach an agreement – so we will take the third step and announce the details today or tomorrow,“ quoted the presidential website Rouhani.

For this purpose, the amount of low-enriched uranium and the degree of enrichment were limited. Iran has already crossed both borders – as announced. At the same time, the leadership in Tehran has repeatedly stated that this can be reversed as soon as the EU states honor their commitments.

„Stena Impero“ crewmembers are to be released

Meanwhile, the case of the British oil tanker Stena Impero, which has been confiscated in Iran since July, is on the move. Iran has agreed to release seven of its 23 crew members for humanitarian reasons. Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi announced this in the news channel Chabar.

The seven crew members from India, Russia and Latvia had been selected by the captain of the Stena Impero tanker, the spokesman said. Mousavi did not comment on the release of the tanker itself.
