Pence praises Poland

US Vice President Michael Pence has praised Poland today, among other things for his opposition to the Russian natural gas pipeline „North Stream 2“. He also announced an end to the visa requirement. Poland, for its part, wants to decide this year about the station for additional US troops on Polish soil.

The latter announced Polish President Andrzej Duda after the meeting with Pence. „I hope that this year we will sign the final treaties to expand the US military presence and that the final decision will be made as to where the troops should be stationed,“ Duda said.

The US troop contingent is to be increased from 4,500 to 5,500 soldiers. Trump has brought into play for deducting soldiers from Germany.

Poland at gas on US line

Duda said another topic of the bilateral conversation with Pence had been cooperation in the energy industry. Poland has decided to buy American liquefied petroleum gas worth around 30 billion euros and has built its own terminal, which can be used by gas tankers from the USA. The US is against the „North Stream 2“ pipeline, on the one hand for strategic reasons, on the other hand, because they want to sell their own LPG to Europe.

Pence represents US President Donald Trump, who had canceled his visit to Poland and his participation in World War Remembrance because of hurricane „Dorian“ at short notice.
