In response to rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip, Israel has flown airstrikes in the Palestinian territory. Fighter jets bombed a naval base of the radical Islamic Hamas in the north of the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli army announced today. Reports of victims were initially not available.
On the night of today, Hamas had again fired two rockets towards Israel after Israeli army arrests. It was therefore the sixth missile attack from the Gaza Strip since Friday. Already on Saturday Israeli jet fighters had flown retaliatory attacks in the Palestinian territory.
Conflict again aggravated
The conflict between Israelis and Palestinians had recently aggravated again. On Sunday, Israeli soldiers killed three Palestinians on the border with the Gaza Strip. A week earlier, a total of five armed Palestinians had been shot dead at the border fence.
Palestinians have been demonstrating against the blockade of the coastal strip every week since March 2018 on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel. The demonstrations often lead to clashes with Israeli soldiers. Since then, at least 305 Palestinians have been killed, most during such protests and clashes. The number of Israelis killed is seven.
Accidentally shot at Israeli light aircraft
Israel’s army reportedly accidentally shelled an Israeli civilian aircraft on the border with Syria. According to a media report, this was a small propeller machine. Soldiers on the Golan Heights would have identified the plane as an enemy plane that „invaded Syria into Israeli airspace, posing an immediate threat,“ an army spokeswoman said today.
That’s why they shot the plane. „When they found out that it was an Israeli civil aircraft, they stopped the fire.“ She was not aware of reports of damage or injuries. „This is a serious incident being investigated,“ said the spokeswoman.
