Cyprus has taken in 33 refugees from a crowded Mediterranean boat. According to the police, people went ashore yesterday in the port city of Larnaca. On board were therefore 32 Syrians and a Lebanese. Among them were ten children and six women.
According to the police, the police had previously been informed about the boat heading for the island state. The Coast Guard finally discovered the eight-meter-long boat in Cypriot waters. The people were brought after their arrival in a reception center near the capital Nicosia.
Cyprus has recently become the target of people starting their journey from Lebanon and Turkey via the Mediterranean to the island state. At the beginning of August, Cyprus had asked the other EU countries to accept 5,000 refugees who are currently in the country.
